Sorry doesn’t make a dead man alive – Part 1

Rashmi’s eyes were swollen and it took Minal a moment to guess,
“What’s the matter Rashmi? you are not in your usual self?” Minal, seemed curious.
Before Minal could throw her next question, Rashmi stopped her and said,
“Nothing like that Minal! It’s the usual stress you know”
It was becoming increasingly difficult for Rashmi to hide the truth, from Minal who had
been her bestie since past five years. But she did, as she didn’t want Minal to be upset
hearing this.
“How is Naveen?” Minal asked, while taking the file out from Rashmi’s cabinet.
Suddenly Rashmi got a jolt from inside. “Naveen” the word itself brought back the memories
from which Rashmi has been running all this while.
“He must be good!” swallowing a lump in the throat Rashmi said, which seemed to have not
gone down well with her friend of five years.
“Only good, nothing more to add” quipped Minal.
Previously Rashmi would be elated speaking about Naveen, but today the name itself brings
tears in her eyes. Rashmi, Naveen and Minal had been hired by their company to work as
trainees and out of the trio Naveen showed immense promise, as he was the one who was
well equipped with new technology. It was his charm that cast a spell on Rashmi and
without any effort she had developed a soft corner for this perfect gentleman. Naveen
would praise Rashmi and she would give a coy smile. Rashmi had crossed many hurdles to
reach this stage where she could afford a living of her own. Her Dad a BSF commando was
killed when she was a toddler. She was a lone child to her Mother who had to do many odd
jobs to give her daughter proper education. Mother daughter duo were always looked down
upon by fellow villagers but it was her Mom’s determination that helped them sail through
the tough times. Today she wants her Mom to be happy and that’s the reason she has been
toiling day in and out. She had never in her wildest thoughts had foreseen a present like
this, where she doesn’t know which way to go.
“I love you! Rashmi” This was the sweetest euphony that Rashmi had heard in years. A self-
confessed recluse, she had never expected that Naveen too would reciprocate her feelings.
What lay ahead was unknown to this naïve girl……….
When Naveen asked Rashmi out for the first time that windy evening, Rashmi said “Yes”
immediately.
“Come Rashmi, I will show you my Flat today…………………” said Naveen

“But………………” Before Rashmi could continue, Naveen planted a kiss on Rashmi’s forehead.
“Finally, I got kissed ………………” For Rashmi it was a magical moment as she could feel the
adrenaline rush. She was so much into it, that hardly she could realize that Naveen has
indeed taken up the MG road route.
“Come Rashmi……………….” Naveen was persistent.
After pondering for some time Rashmi, followed Naveen to his flat.
Once in, Naveen dragged Rashmi close to his chest and tried to kiss her passionately.
Rashmi resisted but Naveen held her tight……….
“You are mine, Rashmi” Naveen went on.
Naveen pulled Rashmi’s pants and tried to fondle her private parts.
“Hold on Naveen! what are you doing? Please!”
It was as if Naveen was deaf ear to Rashmi’s words. Naveen dragged Rashmi into a ghastly
sexual act which Rashmi never wanted.
“I helped you lose your virginity Darling; you should be happy. Moreover, we two are in a
relationship, so what’s wrong in going a step further?” Said Naveen, who seemed pretty
satisfied.
“We may be having feelings for each other, but that doesn’t give you the right to play with
my body. Sex should happen with mutual consent. You have raped me Naveen….” Rashmi
said with teary eyes, while picking up her clothes from the ground.
“This is typical middle-class mentality, grow up Rashmi! Without sex no relationship holds
good. You are not a kid who isn’t aware about this.” Naveen seemed stern.
